Landscape Lighting Installation, Design, Maintenance and Repair
There are good reasons why some companies like to provide a wide variety of services. The main reason is diversification. Just like with investing, most people rightly believe that it’s not good to put all of your eggs in one basket. This is why I like to invest in mutual funds. By offering many different services, if one trend fades, maybe another one will pick up and take up the slack. This makes total sense.
On the other hand, I also believe that if you try to do too many things, it’s very hard to do them all very well. The old “Jack of all trades, master of none” phrase comes to mind. If you are working on all kinds of different services, how can you really stay up to date on all of them? Maybe you’ve noticed how the medical profession is now a collection of many different doctors specializing in one or two different areas of the body or conditions because it’s just too hard to keep up with so much.
From the beginning, we said that we didn’t want to be a “master of none” company, but instead want to be the very best in our particular specialty, contributing to the creation of amazing outdoor living environments; and that specialty is landscape lighting installation, design, maintenance and repair. That doesn’t mean that we have only one limited skill set, though, so here is a list of the services we provide:
- Outdoor Lighting Design. This is where we hang our hat; as our primary focus, design is the expertise for which we are best known, and how we have developed our excellent reputation. I have traveled the country to learn from some of the masters of the industry: How light works as art in a landscape to be visually beautiful, but also evoke emotion. Among other training opportunities, I attended the International Landscape Lighting Institute which is given by Janet Lennox Moyer, author of The Landscape Lighting Book (literally, she wrote the book on landscape lighting). I also attended the first advanced lighting class by Nate Mullen of Unique Lighting and the author of The Landscape Lighting Resource Manual. Currently, I have worked through over half of the three year Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer course from the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals. Outdoor lighting design is a passion that I hope shows in the designs we create.
- Landscape Lighting Installation. For a professional outdoor lighting design to be fully realized, it must be executed correctly. The right fixtures have to be expertly installed in the designated places to create the desired effect. Our team of well-trained technicians have been doing this work for a long time; they know how to properly install an outdoor lighting system, both above and below ground elements, to insure it will not only look fantastic, but will also perform up to expectations for many years. We only install high quality lighting and infrastructure products that we – and the manufacturers – stand behind. This includes even the unseen details like wire and connectors as well.
- Outdoor Lighting Maintenance. As far as I know, NightScenes is the only outdoor lighting company in the country that provides 3 full years of service on our newly designed and installed residential outdoor lighting systems. If we design it and install it, we will be more than happy to take care of it for three full years. Why is that? One reason is that a quality professional outdoor lighting system can be a pretty hefty investment, depending on the size and scope of the project. An asset like that deserves some extra attention. More importantly, we want that system to look flawless every single night; and we know that in order for that to happen, some basic maintenance must be performed on a regular basis, just like a car or your home’s air conditioning/heating system. We also know that if anything major is going to happen to that system, it will be in that first three year period of time. We cover all parts and labor for any defect in materials or workmanship for that entire three year period. The only exceptions under this service plan are things beyond our control like lightning strikes, or the dog digging up wires and chewing on them, or maybe the gardener damaging some wires. Additionally, we’ll also maintain other professional grade outdoor lighting systems that we did not originally install. On the initial visit we will evaluate the entire operation and make any repairs needed to bring the system up to our standards. Then we’ll offer an annual Comprehensive Renewable Maintenance Contract to visit a couple of times a year for a thorough maintenance inspection and cleaning.
- Outdoor Lighting Repairs. Not even the best equipment will last forever, and repairs will eventually have to be made. We currently have three AOLP Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technicians (CLVLT) on staff. They are highly trained in design, installation, repair, troubleshooting, transformers, maintenance and lamps. They can work on any professional grade low voltage lighting system on the market and have seen just about everything when it comes to products and installation techniques. We very seldom find a professional lighting system that we could not troubleshoot and repair. If a system is beyond repair, we will let you know that upfront, and explain why we feel a repair might not be worth the investment. We have found many systems that had been left for dead that we were able to bring back to life, better than ever before.
- Outdoor sound. I know, you’re saying, “What? Where does that come in?” But consider this: when someone in theater talks about light, they almost always mention sound as well. Light and sound go together like bread and butter (or peanut butter in my case). They are a match made in heaven. Add to that the fact that Paul Jr and I are both former disc jockeys — and the picture may become even clearer. To me life can’t get too much better when sitting outside in the cool evening with my wonderful bride, enjoying a glass of our favorite wine; looking at our beautiful and softly illuminated landscape while our favorite music plays in in the background, talking about the events of the day or our kids and grandchildren. Sound fills out the picture in a way that can’t be seen, but instead fills the atmosphere with emotion – just like the right lighting. Perhaps you can’t see it; but we like to call it invisible lighting!
So there is our complete list of services. We are not landscapers, but we enhance landscapes. We don’t irrigate, but we do shower plants in light. We don’t build fire pits, pergolas or swimming pools, but we can tie all of those elements together after the sun sets so the space can be fully appreciated anytime. Landscape lighting installation, design, maintenance and repair is what we are here for.
We would love to provide all or some of these services to you, so please contact us here to set up an appointment for your free at-home consultation.
